Kamle Habib has being busy knitting and recently enjoyed a day with her sister Afifi Younis and sister in law Barbara Roumanous and some of their daughters to sew 7 blankets/ Wraps of love from the 207 squares that Kamle had knitted. As the photos will show the day was held under the olive trees in mum’s backyard at Lakemba.

Kamle has now enlisted other family members to knit squares and they will hold another day in July 2008 to sew more blankets which they will hand over to the ABC for distribution to the needy.

An Extract from an article by David Harbour in The Torch 12 March 2008
“Last year’s ABC Knit-in was very successful, with a 30 per cent increase in squares to make wraps.
On the Wrap With Love internet link it says “beautiful handmade Wraps have been lovingly crafted by our more than 25,000 volunteers throughout Australia and in the past years we have sent more than 130,000 Wraps to people in over 75 countries, including Australia.
The wraps cannot be bought, sold or traded. From its Alexandria warehouse more than 40 non-denominational and non-political aid agencies distribute them to those in greatest need.
Wrap With Love is not a charity. It is a not-for-profit organization incorporated with the NSW Department of Fair Trading.”

An interesting item is that I heard an Australian volunteer in Mongolia been interviewed last July and they spoke of distributing some of these wraps to street people in Mongolia where the temperature can be 30-40 degrees  below freezing point.  I imagine you would need more than one wrap to stay warm!!!
